Providing fire and security equipment to businesses and individuals within the commercial sector
Emergency Lighting is used when the supply to normal lighting fails. This is to enable the safe exit from a building in the event of mains failure.
Emergency Lighting is a method of providing lighting from another source that will automatically operate when the supply to the normal lighting fails. This is to enable the safe exit from a building. In the event of mains failure, the luminaries will provide immediate lighting for a minimum period as designed via a dedicated battery source.
BS 5266 / Part1 1999 provides detailed guidance on where luminaries should be installed along with the minimum levels of illumination required for escape routes and open areas. Guidance is also given as to the minimum period of lumination after failure of normal lighting. The Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) regulations 1996, requires that adequate provision of exit and safety signs be provided and which are to be illuminated by emergency lighting.
